Five years in the past, Batman chases an alien across Gotham's rooftops as helicopter police fire at both of them. The creature is stopped by a green firetruck construct thanks to Green Lantern, Hal Jordan. Meeting for the first time, Batman and Green Lantern converse before the creature attacks the police helicopters and makes its escape. They chase the creature into the tunnels beneath Gotham, where it dies in an explosion of its own creation (using what appears to be a Mother Box). They wonder if the alien has anything to do with the "Superman" they've heard about in Metropolis. Elsewhere, Vic Stone is the star player in an American Football match, scouts from everywhere are vying to have him come play for their team. Vic and friends wonder about super-humans when they see Green Lantern fly by. In Metropolis, Green Lantern boldly thinks he'll simply go into a building and pull out Superman. He's knocked for a loop as Superman emerges and confronts Batman.

Barry Allen is instructed to drop the case he's investigating and concentrate on discovering everything about The Flash. In Metropolis Superman grabs Batman, but Green Lantern steps back in. Superman is getting the upper hand, so Green Lantern calls in The Flash. The Flash briefly gets the better of Superman, but not for long. Batman talks Superman down, letting him know they're all trying to discover who is behind the alien boxes. The military arrive on the scene and the four superheroes head into the tunnels below street level. In STAR Labs Dr. Stone and his team are trying to learn more about the alien box in their possession when Vic Stone comes to visit his father. Dr. Stone thinks Vic is wasting his time with sports. At an abandoned printing press the four superheroes examine the box in their possession when it suddenly PINGs repeatedly and begins to glow... as does the one in STAR Labs. Creatures storm through the Boom Tube the boxes create, and Victor is badly injured.
