Gossamer/Jay is shocked to be confronted by his mother, the first of Bendix's experiments. Even with Superman and the scientists by his side Jay is visibly shaken. Jay whispers to Superman that he should evacuate everyone, because if Bendix is focused on him he's neglecting his domination over Gamorra.
Bendix takes control of President Nakamura and uses the boys' attachment to deal damage to the teenager. Meanwhile Superman tries to locate the control devices so he can free the post humans and deactivate their explosives.
One of the scientists reveals they are stored in a bunker only accessible by a teleporter. Superman realizes the Revolutionaries can help and rushes to find Wink. With their combined skill they are able to deactivate the controllers and both the post humans and the Gamorra corps are freed from Bendix's control.
Bendix is losing everything and seeks out his business partner Lex Luthor, only to find he and all the participants in The Rising are abandoning him... Lex warns that he won't go down lightly.
Bendix has one last contingency plan and only Superman can stop it. Superman absorbs a huge amount of energy to save Gamorra, he saves the day but something in him has changed forever, but at least the day was saved...
...or was it?
The End.
Story - 4: The Rising is finally over! My synopsis deliberately omits some of the big reveals, but even with the twists it was a very predictable end. That's not to say it wasn't a satisfying one. I do wish Lois and Nightwing were along for the ride as they were a big part of the story, but it was still a really good story and everything was tied up neatly with three twists left unresolved for future plots.
Tom, if you're reading this, please keep Dreamer around for a little while longer and expand on the Revolutionaries a bit more.
Art - 4: The art this issue was great and conveyed the action in spectacular fashion. There are some scenes I wish were expanded upon a bit more, such as Gossamer versus his mother and the battle between the Revolutionaries and the Gamorra Corps.
Cover Art - 3: I hate to say it but this cover was just too busy with the focus on teams. The central fight, which lets be honest is what we're really here for, is just swamped with a plethora of characters that we barely know the names of. I just wish the series of covers had a better finale.
Painted Variant Cover Art - 3: A beautifully painted cover and definitely worthy of the finale. I love the optimism of the piece and it really does a good job of giving me the feels of the ending of "Superman: The Movie".
Super Pets Variant Cover Art - 4: This is such a cute cover. I can never get enough of the Super Pets. Everything about this cover is beautiful. Bittersweet though, as Krypto and Streaky unfortunately don't appear in the finale (but they should have!).
