As you recall, the time traveler Epoch warned the Justice League to destroy the Gold Lantern ring. Whether he was truthful or not has not had a chance to be up for debate as the Great Darkness continues to grow and separate the Legion of Super-Heroes and the Justice League. One group is in Kamandi's dystopian world, another meets Terry McGuinness the future Batman, and Ultra Boy and Aquaman must battle dinosaurs in a prehistoric era. To make matters worse, the science police are about to arrest Batman in the 31st Century while Gold Lantern has lost contact with the Guardians of the Universe while the Daily Planet building either appears or is about to be consumed by the Great Darkness.

4Story - 4: Okay, delays happen, especially nowadays. Some BACK ISSUE magazines I've written for have had release dates changed left and right recently, but I've always respected deadlines the editor gives me. Bendis, on the other hand, has always had a tendency to be late even before the pandemic, and the publishers let him get away with it. Because it feels like so much time has passed between the previous issue and this one, the pathos is ruined a little bit. Plus, there are some typos in the dialogue here and there. Deadlines, proofreading and pitching are necessary evils in writing, but two of those three things were flushed down the proverbial toilet. The story suffers a bit because of what I consider a lack of respect for the principles of the craft. I'm not saying this issue isn't good. It is. I just feel that in addition to feeling more like a team-up instead of a battle as the series title suggests, the powers that be and Bendis himself should follow some sort of structure if they want readers to appreciate their work more. Flame me all you want, folks, but I'll stand by my opinion no matter what.

5Art - 5: The Terry Dodson influenced art has been very smooth and solid in this series so far. I hope it remains that way.

5Cover Art - 5: This cover depicts Gold Lantern's situation without giving too much away before folks can read the comic. I wish more new covers did that these days.

5Variant Cover Art - 5: It looks like all the variants for this series interconnect into one image, which is cool. I hope the full image becomes the wraparound for the collected edition.
