Eddie's Answers

June-July 2002

Vincent Desrochers (vdesrochers@yahoo.com) asks:
What about the Kryptonian girl named Kara from the first Superman/Alien trilogy? Is she still lost in space like we saw at the end? Any chance of seeing her in the Super titles soon?

Eddie: Nope, she's still lost in space, but definitely check out SUPERGIRL#75 for other Kara develpments!

Jed (jedijedly@cox.net) asks:
There's a heated debate flying around some sites, partly mine and a friends fault, partly because some people have the same question... Who do you think would win in battle... Dragonball Z's Goku or Superman? Maybe we can finally settle this debate. Thanks.

Eddie: Superman. He's just cooler and more experienced, but I might be biased.

DC Message Board's Village Idiot (vgidiot@hotmail.com) asks:
Hey Eddie! Last year you guys brought Marv Wolfman back to do Infestation. Any chance Wolfman may come back and do another story? I vote yes. Although Infestation was a little derivative (**cough**-BORG-**cough**), I really liked it. And I know I may be reaching with this next question, but since you let Wolfman come back, is there any chance you might let Elliot S! Maggin take a crack at writing a story anytime soon?

Eddie: These stories come into being as time allows and the regular guys need breaks. Steve Seagle is coming onto SUPERMAN with artist Scott McDaniel this January, and we've got plenty of stuff with guys like Geoff Johns and Chuck Austen helping out as well, so for the time being we're covered. But we'll see what happens in the future.

Katana Octopus (katana_octopus@hotmail.com) asks:
Superman has always been, and always will be, The King of Superheroes. But through the years we have seen that Superman's popularity among the comic book readers has diminished. Often he's eclipsed even by Batman. Some (well, a lot, actually) of those readers say that the character's not evolving whatsoever. Others say that Superman is just too boring, because he's too powerful (please, I hope you're not thinking of depowering him. To be honest, to me, the more powerful, the better), and others say that he lacks personality (can you believe it?). Why, in your opinion, do people think that way? What is DC doing to raise Supes' popularity?

Eddie: We've got some pretty strong stuff coming up with the 8-part story arc that pits Superman against many of his foes as the story of his identity being exposed is dealt with. Come December, Joe Kelly and Geoff Johns are teaming up as the sole writers of a 4-part arc that will put Superman in a totally different enviroment dealing with some nasty and harsh realities. Then we have the new team on SUPERMAN in January, ACTION #800 in February, a surprise in March and from then on there's Mark Waid and Leinil Yu on SUPERMAN: BIRTHRIGHT. So, I would say we're aiming to do some shaking up with the big guy.

Jason Lavigne (jsavigne@yahoo.com) asks:
I like when a hero goes up against villains normally associated with other characters. Any chance of this happening with Superman any time soon?

Eddie: Yup. During "Ending Battle" Mark Schultz has Superman battling Green Lantern villain Evil Star in MAN OF STEEL.

Jeff Dyer (jdyer@dubuque.k12.ia.us) asks:
Hey, Eddie. A lot of the DC books used to be printed on glossy paper. Now they're all back to newsprint. When the whole comic industry does the same thing, it's not so apparent. But now Marvel is printing many of their books on high quality paper. DC, by comparison, looks cheap and flimsy. Sometimes appearances DO matter, especially to new fans. Any chance to getting at least the major books (Superman, Batman, JLA, etc.) on glossy paper again? If Marvel can do it, why can't DC?

Eddie: Keep watching the stands, we'll see what we can do.

Yahya Ghazal (yelghazal@yahoo.com) asks:
Now that the new Bizzaro seems to be here to stay, will we be seeing the Bizzaro World back any time soon?

Eddie: Joe Kelly has a crazy idea, it's not quite Bizarro World, but close. He'll deny it, though.

Lawrence Masucci II (Superman-32@juno.com) asks:
Can Superman get drunk? My Friends say YES he can get plastered like the rest of us. But I say no due to his Kryptonian physiology. Who is right? I have a bet on this one... and I can't lose this one.

Eddie: Collect your money. His Kryptonian physiology burns up the liquor.

Jon Hauge (haugej@netzero.net) asks:
In the up-coming "Superman and Batman" comic book series, any chance that Superman will "outsmart" Batman? In just about every Batman/Superman story, Superman is messed up and Bats comes in and cleans up. I would like to see Superman put Bats in his place, not by force but wits. Also, I think a cool story line would have Bruce around the Kents. It would really be nice if they are taking care of him after a brutal fight (not with Supes) and Clark took him there for a time of recovery. Clark is always having to understand Bruce's world. Why not have Bruce see Clark's world and have Bruce "treated" with the heart and soul that raised Clark?

Eddie: Then don't miss the issue on sale first week in December.

Michael S. Black (superman041666@yahoo.com) asks:
Hey Eddie, I was wondering, since the Superboy title is no more and the Kid now resides in Smallville (finally), and in control of the Superman crew. I was wondering, in addition to character development, will you touch on his powers? Many of us on the Superboy boards speculate he will he develop more Kryptonian like powers in addition to his existing one? Could this be touched on? It would be intresting to see Clark teach him how to use heat vision, or to deal with superhearing which is always on. Or ma and pa teaching him the respect he should show for others when he develops his x-ray vision. Things we never got to see with Clark.

Eddie: We're working out what to do with the Kid. Keep watching the pages of YOUNG JUSTICE as well as SUPERGIRL #76, where he guest-stars.

Thanks Eddie!! :)

Eddie: You're welcome. Sorry for the two month break.
