May 20, 2002: “Smallville” Season Finale - Tempest

The first season of "Smallville" comes to an end in the U.S. this Tuesday night (May 21st). Titled "Tempest", the last episode of "Smallville" for season one promises to be a big one! Here's how the official Warner Bros. website describes this episode...

As a massive tornado rumbles towards an unsuspecting Smallville, Clark (Tom Welling) is on the verge of discovering the first connection to where he came from when the missing piece of the spaceship is found and breathes life into the fallen craft. Meanwhile, Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) is hit with a one-two punch after his father (guest star John Glover, "Batman & Robin") closes the plant and orders him back to Metropolis and the shifty reporter he hired to spy on the Kents discovers Clark's superhuman abilities and the spaceship hidden in the storm cellar. Rock band Remy Zero performs the "Smallville" theme song, their hit single "Save Me," in the episode at the high school formal.

Sam Jones III, Annette O'Toole and John Schneider also star. Greg Beeman directed the episode with story written by Philip Levens and teleplay by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar.

While the TV Guide website has this description...

Smallville residents face tumultuous times when the town's major employer threatens to shut down as the series concludes its first season.

The commotion starts when Lionel Luthor (John Glover) announces that the LuthorCorp plant is closing, despite turning its first profit in years. Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) suspects that the decision is his father's retaliation for Lex's rejection of an earlier offer to work in Metropolis, so he's not taking the news lying down. Meanwhile, Clark (Tom Welling) finds his personal life in turmoil when he learns disparate circumstances may cause both Chloe and Whitney to leave Smallville. A performance by the band Remy Zero is also featured.

Season one episodes of "Smallville" look set to be re-run on Sunday nights at 5pm (ET) starting some time in September.
