Jack Larson

September 7, 2002: 'Superman' Actor Gets Second Look

A report by The Associated Press...

Fame isn't fleeting for Jack Larson, best known as Jimmy Olsen on the 1950s TV series "The Adventures of Superman."

The Route 66 Rendezvous, the annual San Bernardino celebration of the automobile, the famous Chicago-to-Santa Monica highway and nostalgia, is honoring "The Adventures of Superman" a half-century after Larson debuted his role as a cub reporter on the show.

"The biggest honor is proving Andy Warhol wrong; that we can get more than 15 minutes of fame. I am very grateful to Superman and Jimmy Olsen for my 50 years of being remembered," Larson said.

Larson and Noel "Lois Lane" Neill will be on hand for the four-day celebration that kicks off Sept. 19. The event is expected to draw up to 100,000 people.

"The Adventures of Superman" (1951-57) is enjoying new life on cable's TV Land network.

"It is truly a great gift to be a part of a television classic that has brought so many people joy over 50 years," Larson said. "It is very satisfying to know that now three generations of the American public, grandparents, parents and children, can gather together and watch a show that they have grown up loving."
