Smallville

October 29, 2002: Meet the Mayor of Smallville

Canadian actor William B. Davis is probably best known for his role as the Cigarette Smoking Man in The X-Files, but in Season 2 of "Smallville" you'll get to know him as the Mayor of Smallville.

Zap2It.com recently caught up with Davis to discuss his role in the WB's hit TV show. Here's an excerpt from the interview...

Davis returned to Vancouver, Canada, to film an episode of The WB's "Smallville," called "Ryan," airing Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 9 p.m. ET. He plays Mayor Tate, the corrupt political leader in teen-Superman Clark Kent's (Tom Welling) Kansas hometown.

"How I wound up on it, who knows?" Davis says. "That goes on between the agents and the producers, and all of a sudden, I get a phone call saying they want me to be the mayor of Smallville. So I look at it and say, 'Hey, that's fun to do.'"

I tell my stepdaughter that I'm going to be on 'Smallville,' and she says, "What? Holy smokes.' Nothing else I've done has made any impression on her since 'The X-Files,' but 'Smallville' really got her turned on. I guess it's a really popular show among the young."
