July 1, 2001: New Superman Movie Rumors
A highly speculative rumor was announced on the Corona Coming Attractions website concerning the up-coming Superman movie.The following are NOT confirmed! And until they can be substantiated should be taken as purely rumor and nothing more:
- Paul Attansio apparently handed in a 50 page blueprint for what will tentatively become the script for a new Superman movie, to the producers on Wednesday, June 27th.
- The script has a second alternative title ["Superman Reborn" being the first], called "Superman Destruction".
- BATMAN producers, Benjamin Melniker and Michael E Uslan will work alongside David Nutter and Dan Hill as executive producers. Warners want to see how well Spider-Man does next year and will put the project on the fast track for a christmas 2003 release.
- Tim Burton will become involved with the movie if "Planet of the Apes" is a success. He has already given his word to Warner chiefs, and will co-produce with Jon Peters and Larry Franco.
- The actor Warners now want to go with as Superman is none other than David Duchovny (!!).
- Jim Carrey is still the studio's No. 1 choice to play Luthor or Brainiac in the movie.
