To get to the Trinity, the sorcerer Deimos tricks Steve Trevor to Papua, New Guinea and transforms him with an evil enchantment.
Meanwhile Batman has discovered the mysterious firm, Blue Strike Security, has links to their search but it has three sites to investigate: Dallas, the Egyptian desert, and deep space. Superman discovers a satellite swarming with synthetic kryptonite wasps, Wonder Woman is ambushed by a giant robotic copy of the God Set and Batman has to battle a trio of android gorillas.
The Trinity is thrust into battle and find they have to conquer both technology and magic to find a solid lead on Steve's location. They discover some strange coding and reconvening, Bruce is able to decipher them as coordinates to Papua, New Guinea.
The search could be over, Steve reveals himself to his friends but he isn't the man they remember.
He could be the death of them.
To Be Continued...
Story - 4: Not a great continuation of the previous storyline but it was not without its entertainment factor. The Warlord storyline was far more cerebral and spent a lot of time examining the relationships of the heroes but this time it was more about their fighting skills, and to be honest I had hoped to see more of Robinson's explorations into their psyches rather than their power sets. Still it was a very entertaining read and had some great action scenes to keep my attention.
Art - 5: The art was brilliant, it was the perfect counterbalance to the weaker storyline with some fantastically realized set pieces and really nicely illustrated scenes.
I thought Wonder Woman versus Set was beautifully done. Superman's fight in space was superb. I think the heroes could have 'posed' a lot less as it felt a little out of place 'in story' but the Trinity looked really iconic. Herbert & Kirkham have done a great job.
Cover Art - 4: Nicely illustrated, though the inking style wasn't much to my liking. I like the theme as it is a continuation of last issue but it was quite difficult to see what exactly was going on and where the universes actually separated. Not sure if it was the coloring or the inking but it didn't really bolster the cover to the same level as others this series has enjoyed.
Variant Cover Art - 4: Batman looks macabre and supernatural, almost vampiric. As a showcase on Bruce alone it's a really atmospheric piece. The minimalism with materials and color palette really help the cover grab your attention.
