July 18, 2021: Mikel Janin's Unused Concept Designs for "Superman & The Authority"

Artist Mikel Janin has revealed unused concept designs for the upcoming 4-issue "Superman & The Authority" comic book miniseries.

In the story, written by Grant Morrison, an older Superman wears a costume that features an "S" symbol reminiscent of the one seen in the Elseworlds series "Kingdom Come". Janin's unused concepts show that Superman could have been seen in the entire costume from that series.

"Superman and The Authority #1 comes out next week! But to get here, there's been a lot of work for many months, with some interesting directions that were dropped. Here's a hint of what could have been!" said Janin on Twitter.

While Superman sports a bit of grey hair around the temples, some of Janin's other designs show the Man of Steel could have gone fully grey... in costume as well as hair.

Sometimes even Superman finds a task almost impossible. Sometimes even the Last Son of Krypton needs to enlist help. Some tasks require methods and heroes that don't scream 'Justice League'. So Clark Kent, the Metropolis Marvel, seeks out Manchester Black, the most dastardly of rogues, to form an all-new Authority tasked with taking care of some business on the sly.

"Superman & The Authority #1" will be released on July 20.
