"Living (Scott) Free"

On Apokolips, Granny Goodness tells her slaves of Scott Free's epic escape from her to Earth, and how she will soon retrieve him...

Meanwhile on Earth, Scott Free is tied up by chains, hanging from a helicopter outside of the Daily Planet building, when the chains break, and he plummets to the ground. Superman shows up in no time and carries the man to the ground, where both Free and his manager are frustrated with the Man of Steel for ruining the stunt.

Superman flies off grumpily as Lois Lane offers Free and his manager a chance to perform their death-defying stunts in the circus that night for charity, which they accept eagerly.

Later, Superman saves Free again as he's attempting to pull off another stunt in which he's handcuffed inside a car on a railroad track.

Superman, ticked off with the way he keeps saving a guy that doesn't want to be saved, almost pushes aside the opportunity to save a man trapped in an abandoned well, thinking it's Scott, but at the last moment, he flies off to save the man.

Meanwhile, Free prepares for the show in his guise of "Mister Miracle" as Granny Goodness prepares to invade the circus and cause havoc.

Soon, Free is hooked up to a "Rocket Sled of Death" just as the elephants in the circus turn into monsters and attack the crowd. Superman stops the elephants, with a little help from newcomer Barda, as Free realizes his sled has been sabotaged. It is now hooked up with a bomb that will take out most of Metropolis if Free should hit anything or escape the sled.

Finally, Free decides to use his Mother Box and sends himself back to Apokolips where he grabs Granny on his rocket sled and she finally agrees to tell him how to get out safely. The two jump from the sled as it explodes, causing Granny's orphanage to be damaged to the point where the inmates can escape.

Returning to Earth with Barda, Mister Miracle and Superman put aside their differences to shake hands at a job well done.

3Story - 3: The story was as cliched as it gets, although I found the dialogue to be fun and the overall read to be entertaining. This issue was about what you'd expect with a super-hero team-up.

3Art - 3: As usual with Vokes, things looked much too cartoony without fitting the animated show's style. Some bright colors and fairly suspenseful scenes at the end helped a little, but stronger art would have definitely improved the issue.

3Cover Art - 3: Mediocre attempt by Manley and Austin this time around with Mr. Miracle displaying Superman tied up. Although humorous and fun, it's nothing to catch the eye and probably isn't going to convince the casual viewer to take a second glimpse.
